What do you think of when someone says the word ‘Raw?’ Webster
defines the term ‘Raw’ as outspoken; a raw portrayal
of truth. Another definition is powerfully impressive; raw beauty,
raw talent. But anyone who listens to the fiery and eclectic sounds
of the super hip-hop/R&B trio Custom Made Family will instantly
see that they are the definition of Raw.
Custom Made Family has set out on a mission to become another
addition to Brooklyn’s finest by using hip hop as a tool
to reach out to the world. Their troubled history (welfare recipients,
hustling and carjacking) has led Mr. Buk 50, Johnny Nemonic and
7/30 Postal to develop a philosophy that is conveyed through their
art which is; “be yourself without being ashamed.’”
This philosophy is what makes the trio stand out among the less flavorful underground emcees. Each individual member adds their own style to blend sleek rhyme flow with ground shattering deliverance to form a bubbling cauldron of unique sounds. Every lyrical phrase is a smooth but edgy over tone that illustrates darkness and light. Tracks like ‘The Note,’ Imagine’ and ‘Nemonic’ are prime models of how exceptionally dynamic this group is. Furthermore, their overwhelming energy is especially evident throughout various past albums such as; “Da 1st Steps,” “Between Da Lines,” “Da Future” and “Straight Jacket.”
They have also been featured on several websites as well. Highly HipHop site “DIGITALMENTAL.COM had also featured and interviewed the group in april of 2005. The future is bright for these hungry young talents, with plans for an upcoming album as well as opening their own tattoo parlor, these artists are on the fast track to taking the world by storm.
In all their songs and albums, Custom Made Family attempts to
bring the hip hop community together and encourages that everyone
use both brain and heart to express themselves. This sense of
community is what makes Custom Made a family. Each member of the
family brings the portrayal of truth and raw talent to the table
